This month we were reminded by Pope Francis to center the voices and lives of those most affected by the coronavirus. The virus is infecting and killing Black and Brown people across the country at a disproportionately high rate. New York City reported on April 6 that Latinx residents of the city were overrepresented by 2.3 times and Black residents by 1.9 times in COVID-19-related deaths compared to White residents. Our communities need equitable access to masks, testing, treatment, and financial support, as well as sufficient racial data when people are exposed to the virus.
Faith in Action is calling on you to stand up and fight back! Become a frontline worker whose organizing and relationship building is generating a new wave of civic engagement and civic leadership while physical distancing. Pledge to become a builder of change so that we can all live in a world where we feel that we belong.
As a Builder of Change, Faith in Action and our member federations will provide you with easy to use online resources to check in on people in your congregation and neighborhood, hear how they are doing and help them make their voices heard from city hall to Congress.
